Plaza Mayor

The owners of this house in Madrid's Plaza Mayor wanted the most outstanding feature of their flat to be the works of art. Ricardo de la Torre listened to their wishes and designed this open-plan duplex in white gallery.
An open, white space where the aesthetic weight would fall on the paintings and sculptures that have been collected over the years and which have finally found their place.

This is a duplex located on the sixth floor of one of the 18th century buildings that shape the Plaza Mayor in Madrid. It has 120 m2 downstairs and 60 m2 upstairs, plus a 40 m2 terrace, and De la Torre has designed a 100% project that is diaphanous and surprising in this space that is so steeped in history. De la Torre has gone for a deliberately industrial, but clean look, with exposed beams and installations and polished concrete floors.

Far from filling the rooms with a lot of furniture, they have opted for a few, but well-chosen pieces in a soft chromatic range. And the walls still have space for all those works of art that are still to come.

In terms of distribution, the lower level is where almost everything is concentrated, as up the stairs we find a second, more informal kitchen and another bathroom (as well as the terrace). The views of the Plaza Mayor are 360º, making this corner the most sought after by visitors to the house.
