INTERIOR

Fuencarral

The decorator Ricardo de la Torre has converted this flat next to the Gran Vía into a warm duplex where books and the art of the owner, a digital editor, are the storyline. Making the most of its almost industrial features and its cold and linear finishes to achieve a relaxed appearance and flavour in barely four months of work. The flat has a lot of character and a peculiar past. The building was built in the 1950s and three decades later, the owners decided to sell to an architect the old caretaker's flat, which was in the attic, with its terraces and views of the city.
impressive.

The particular configuration, with very high ceilings, made it possible to create two floors. The owner wanted to have a library as the centrepiece of the complex, so the interior designer placed it in the entrance hall, between the living room and the dining room. Two bedrooms and a guest toilet were also installed there.
Upstairs is the master bedroom, with its dressing room and bathroom, and the study, which looks out onto the living room. In this area, the ceiling height is almost six metres, giving it the air of an art gallery. The immaculate white of the walls, where the sculptures, photographs and paintings of the editor, who is a passionate collector of contemporary art, strut their stuff, also help. The largest terrace - there are two, another next to the living room that is used as a living room or a place to take a siesta - can be enjoyed all year round, because it has a swimming pool, a sofa area and a dining room. Ricardo de la Torre more than rose to the challenge by achieving the true luxury of bringing together beauty, comfort and unpretentious convenience.
